Business Leaders Award Winners
Congratulations to Eli Lilly and A. Algeo, the two inaugural winners of the Business Leaders Awards.
The awards were instituted to recognise the most original impact made on the South Liverpool business scene by companies in 2003. A trophy and a cheque for £250 were on offer to companies with up to 50 employees and the same for companies with more than 50 employees.
Eli Lilly won the judges' vote in the latter category. 2003 was a year in which Lilly's efforts to be a good neighbour reached a significant new level. The company unveiled a £5 million Odour Abatement Plant which has played its part in reducing the number of environmental complaints from the local community to a trickle.
The judges were also impressed by Lilly's ongoing commitment to establishing good relationships with their neighbours which they felt set an excellent example in an area where industry and residential property sit side by side.
A Algeo and Co, based in Speke, has established a nationwide reputation as leading suppliers of machinery and materials for the orthopaedic and physiotherapy businesses. Algeo impressed our Judging Panel by taking a leading role in the setting up of a Trade Association and the development of websites aimed at both technicians and the general public. Their pro-active role in welcoming students and people with learning difficulties into their factory is also highly commendable.
