Crime Watch in South Liverpool
Lawrence Jefferies of Merseyside Police (left) and Robin McGrath of Business Crime Direct

Over 150 businesses in Speke and Garston have been given the chance to join the crime-fighting initiative set up by Merseyside Police and Business Crime Direct, and more companies will be offered the same opportunity.

The campaign is up and running in response to a call from South Liverpool Business Leaders for a review of the way business premises were being policed. Four new Business Watch zones have been set up and every company located within those zones is being visited by members of the police/Crime Direct team.

The Blackburne Street area of Garston was the first to benefit. Led by Robin McGrath of Crime Direct the team made contact with 63 businesses, visiting the majority of them in person. Each company was invited to register for inclusion in the free Crime Alert service which involves the sharing and quick transfer of information about criminal activity in the area.
