Under the Mud

Turning Garston into a cultural quarter is an ambitious concept but it's making progress. Alex Corina, creator of the Mona Lennon painting, and architect Roger Kirk-Smith, both based in Garston, are formulating plans to establish a Cultural Village in the St Mary's Road area.

They see it as an important means of reviving an area of South Liverpool which has yet to benefit from the regeneration taking place elsewhere.

There's also a feeling that creative artists may soon be looking for an affordable home as rents rise in the city centre. Meanwhile 'Under the Mud,' a film based on the lives of young people from Speke and Garston, is about to start shooting. Hurricane Films, based in Hope Street, has been developing the idea for the past two years - so if you're out an about in South Liverpool you might find yourself wandering onto a film set!
