SGP Closure
SGP was set up in 1995 backed by Government money with a remit to regenerate the area and support business growth. Now the end of this timespan is in sight and the question for all of us in business leadership is simple: what next?
After SGP who will fight the corner for South Liverpool? Who will be the central point with the wider vision? Will there still be funding and advice to help start-up businesses develop, and developed businesses grow? And are we as business leaders going to retreat back into our premises and look after our own isolated interests - or do we want to be part of a wider picture?
Heavy construction will continue - that is the province of the former Speke Garston Development Company, now expanded into Liverpool Land Company with its brief extended to the whole of Liverpool. But the Partnership must close, leaving a void in the area of business support which has served South Liverpool well for the best part of a decade.
South Liverpool Business Leaders are keen to stimulate debate as to what happens next - and what role, if any, the Business Leaders group should adopt in the post-Partnership landscape.
