The Mini Master Chef project was developed following the successful Master Chef competition organised between Speke Garston EAZ, secondary schools and Marriott Hotels. This 'mini' version requires primary school pupils to work as a team to plan and make a healthy breakfast.
The winning team prepares and serves its own recipe to guests of a Marriott hotel. Year 5 pupils from Banks Road Primary School and Year 4 pupils from St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School have participated in the project in 2004, with St Benedict's College and New Heys Community School providing kitchen facilities and food technology teachers to assist with delivery.
Marriott Hotels arranged for one of its chefs to speak to pupils in school. Meanwhile, ASDA, Hunts Cross, Liverpool, provided a link person to assist with project delivery, organised shopping trips and tours of its stores and provided the food for participating pupils.

- To provide opportunities for pupils to write non-fiction as part of a realistic project
- To provide an opportunity for pupils to consider the characteristics of an effective team and show they can work collaboratively to achieve their aims
- To raise aspirations and awareness of career opportunities in the local community
- To foster positive links with secondary schools and allow pupils to visit a secondary school and use its facilities

- Primary pupils (ideally from Year 5, but the project could be delivered to Years 3 - 6)

- Mathematics - estimating and measuring ingredients, calculating prices and handling money
