At Banks Road School we aim to provide an environment where every child is valued regardless of race, religion, gender or disability. We strive to provide pupils with the opportunity for personal development so that they may fulfil their potential and become valued members of the community.

We value the personal and professional development of all our staff and encourage such training and development that will support us in achieving our aims.

Banks Road School Twelfth Night Receives Rave Reviews
For two nights in July, Year 6 put on a performance of Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night'. The play was re-written by Mrs. Crossley in Modern English and Mr. Davies directed a spectacular production. Many friends of Banks Road attended the performances, including the Lord Mayor and Dave Woodhouse, the new Director of the school's Learning Network.

Dave reviewed the play and said of it, "Last night parents, governors and guests sat back in satisfaction and were fully entertained by confident, happy children who were enjoying the spell they were casting over the adults present...The children's gift to their parents and teachers through the play...was to say thank-you for seeing our potential, encouraging us with challenges - believing that we could meet them and achieve. Last night, centre stage for one and a half hours, they delivered on all that was expected of them and more."

As with last year's performance of 'The Tempest', this production was a great success and was enjoyed by all who saw it. We are looking forward to the school's next production of a Shakespeare play, which will take place in July 2006.

'Ello, 'Ello, 'Ello
As part of the Year 1 role-play, two police constables visited the class to talk to the children about policing. The children were allowed to try on hats and belts and sit in the police van, and saw their teacher, Miss Finnegan, clapped into handcuffs.

Healthy Eating
Following the school's recent 'Healthy Schools Award', there have been many activities going on which support this theme...

Marriott Mini Master Chef Competition
Once again this year, pupils from Year 5 teamed up with New Heys, the Marriott Hotel and Asda for the Marriott Mini Master Chef Competition.

Banks Road School Banks Road School First the children visited the Marriott Hotel in Speke to have breakfast and see the variety of foods on offer.

The New Heys food technology teacher then visited Year 5 to discuss healthy eating and the children went on to design a healthy breakfast.

They visited Asda to purchase their ingredients and then had their 'cook off' in New Heys. The winning team made and served their breakfast for the residents at the Marriott.

Asda Visit
Ladies from Asda visited the school to talk to all the children about healthy eating. Each child was given samples of fruit to try, many of which were new to the children.

Banks Road School Road Safety
Children in Year 1 have been involved in the 'Kerbcraft' Road Safety Training Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to give children an understanding of road safety and to improve judgement and behaviour around traffic.

The scheme lasts for twelve sessions and the children are taken out on to the roads to practise their skills.

If you are interested in this scheme, you can get in touch with Karen Flynn on 0151-225-6322 or email her at .

Banks Road School Links with New Heys CC School
Many of Banks Road School's activities are linked with New Heys CC; for example the Marriott Mini Master Chef Project, Retail Park Challenge, Murder Mystery.

Not only do the children pay visits to New Heys, but New Heys teachers and pupils visit us too. During the past few months, there have been two such visits.

The first was to present those children who had taken part in linked projects with certificates. The second visit was an assembly called 'Choices' led by Miss Vincent, head of Year 7 and Mrs Stahler, New Heys headteacher.

They were accompanied by members of the New Heys Pupil Council, which included David, an ex-Banks Road pupil. After the assembly, Year 6 children were given a question and answer session with the students from the secondary school.
