Garston CofE Primary School caters for children in the 4-11 age range. We are very proud of our Investors in People award, which was recently confirmed for the second time, our School of Achievement awards and Healthy School awards. As a Voluntary Aided Church of England school we try to provide an ethos based on Christian values that values the individual and encourages tolerance and caring for others.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection our ethos drew praise as did the quality of teaching and learning. Our school is very similar to a large family and is committed to raising standards in all aspects of development. We are an active school and provide a wide range of opportunities for our children. We are in partnership with Smartcare who provide a playgroup and Nursery with whom we work closely. It is hoped that a new Early Years/Kids club facility will be provided in the near future.

I welcome enquiries from parents/carers for places in all year groups in what is without doubt an improving school. Our Early Years provision is excellent which is endorsed by Ofsted. If you are looking for a small caring school environment for your child please don't hesitate to contact me on 0151-427 7517.

School Councillors
The school recently held an election for the newly reformed school council. All children were involved and were asked to nominate one child from Y2 to Y6.

They have held several meetings and have discussed topics such as what they want to include in Collective Worship, sports activities and ideas for this year's pantomime.

Eaton Hall
Mrs James and Class 3 went to visit Eaton Hall, which is owned by the Duke of Westminster, in October. They made a study of Aldford Village including the church and learnt about how during the Roman's invasion they came up the River Dee and over the bridge in the village.

The children also had a wonderful experience of 'walking' through the centre of Lebanon Cedar tree.

Big Sing!
In December the whole school will be taking part in a national charity event. It is hoped that over 1,000,000 children will join in and sing the Bill Withers song 'Lean on me'. It will take place on December 9th at 2:45p.m . The charity is hoping for the event to be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Operation Christmas Child
Each child has been asked to fill a shoe box with items including toys, toiletries, stationery and sweets. They will be collected in November and then transported across Romania and Russia. They will be distributed to children between the ages of 4 - 11.

Extra Curricular
The school is running several after school clubs this term. They include:

  • drama
  • dancing
  • singing
  • football coaching

All clubs are well attended and children are enjoying themselves. Other clubs to follow include reading and computing.

The school is set in its own grounds which are being developed with environmental features by our own efforts using funding through the EAZ 'Widening Horizons' Initiative and have recently installed our own adventure playground.

The Hall is multi use for PE, Collective Worship, drama/plays and canteen. Our ICT suite has 16 PCís with other hardware; which supports the curriculum. We have four classrooms that are large and airy and in the main carpeted to improve comfort and reduce noise.

Our admin office is by the main entrance and is adjoined by the Headteacher's office.

We have recently created a Resource Room where our Curriculum resources are housed centrally. Our Medical Room is also used as a reprographic room, housing photocopiers and laminating machine. We have a library, which is also used by parents as a meeting room and for training courses.

The corridors are carpeted throughout and the school has undergone internal redecoration including new toilet blocks in the infant and junior departments. Outside we have a safe play area for the Under 5's. Two playgrounds and a large school field. Our quiet corner is also a feature of which we are very pleased and this is used for relaxation in the summer months and supports the curriculum for art and science.
