At staff at Gilmour Juniors are committed to the provision of a caring and protective climate in which each child is equally valued and has the opportunity to develop his/her full potential academically and socially. Parents are involved in consultation and encouraged to work in partnership with the school.

The school makes every effort through class assemblies, class activities, regular open nights and a very active Parents Association to ensure that parents are fully informed and involved in every aspect of school life.

The School pledges itself to be a place where children of all races and religions will find safety and respect for themselves and their traditions.

The Friend Ship

Gilmour Junior School Gilmour Junior School Gilmour Junior School

The new 'Friend Ship' has floated into Gilmour bringing with it members of Merseyside Dance Initiative. They will perform and work with our children for two days. As well as the dance initiative boxes of themes made up from the Empire, Merseyside Police, the Everyman and many other organisations will be in classes for children to work on. So an exciting, educational time should be had by all.

Gilmour Junior School Gilmour Sport
Our U10 football team went down to a battling 2 - 1 defeat in the cup against Bishop Eton. The U11s turned up in the wind and the rain early on a Saturday morning for the Liverpool 7 a sides to discover they had been postponed, to much disappointment.

A similar tale for the cross country team, the vast majority of whom were in a mini bus returning from Colomendy on the Speke Road when they discovered the meeting had been postponed. So for them it was ten pin bowling, a KFC, and back to North Wales!

Gilmour Junior School Spirit of Garston
The school will shortly be working on a project with a professional artist. This is on the theme of the 'Spirit of Garston' and will be made using recycled materials. The children have been asked to come up with a theme, or idea, that fits this title.

The funding has come through the efforts of Alex Corina, the artist who did the famous John Lennon/Mona Lisa on the front of St. George's Hall. Alex is working hard to establish Garston as a cultural village and we, as an arts mark gold school, fully support him in his aims.

Gilmour Junior School Cathedral Visit
Twenty of our children have been invited by the Lord Mayor to take part in his civic service to celebrate the Year of the Sea.

This is the second year running that we have been invited. Our contribution to the City of Culture is recognised across the city.

European Links
The school has established a new European project with schools from Romania, Italy, Spain and Northern Ireland. We are the 'organising school', and the project is being led by Ms. Byrne. We are expecting teachers from the schools involved to visit soon.

We are still carrying forward are links with Goldstar school in northern Nigeria and we are always delighted to hear from Aunty Florence, the headteacher. Communications can prove a little difficult on occasions but we battle on.

Gilmour Junior School lies in the heart of the residential area of West Allerton and is maintained by Liverpool Education Authority. It is a spacious building with 12 classrooms, a large hall and stage, a separate gymnasium, a library and a television room and an ICT suite.

Garston Park, which the children use for collective recreational activities, is but a short walk away.

Information & Communication Technology
Gilmour Juniors have recently invested a significant amount of money ICT. Not only do we have a fully-equipped computer suite in operation but there is also at least one computer in every classroom.

Music at Gilmour
Music at Gilmour started in 1995. It is a partnership between Gilmour Juniors and the Local Education Authority. Parent pay for lessons from a highly qualified team of musicians. On offer is the full range of brass and woodwind instruments together with violin and guitar tuition.

Extra Curricular Activities
Gilmour children have the chance to participate in residential activity holidays, exchange visits and field study trips. Part of the year 6 syllabus involves specialised training courses in sailing and canoeing. These take place at the Mersey Water Sports Centre at the Albert Dock complex. Every pupil is given the opportunity during the year to take part.
