Springwood Heath School We move into a new school year, still on the two sites at Danefield Road and Woolton Hill Road. However, we are full of anticipation that at last building for our new school will start at the end of October 2005 and will be completed early in 2007.

More and more children are moving to the Danefield Road site as we re-organise provision to make the old building more accessible. This still means that some children and staff remain on the Woolton Hill Road site so that they can have ease of access to the facilities they need.

Though the past year has had many frustrations, we all believe that the school is better placed than ever to continue our development of an inclusive culture. Towards the end of the last year we held a very exciting 'Widening Horizons' week when children of all ages from both sites mingled taking part in activities as diverse as chess and making milk shakes to origami and boccia.

This term we have introduced new aspects into our curriculum to allow the children more opportunities to show their creativity and understanding of the real world. This includes the teaching of French to children from reception to year 6 and contacts with children in other countries.

Supporting the children's learning is making sure that they all have the chance to adopt a healthy lifestyle - a recent report from Sportslinx shows Y6 children at Springwood Heath overall to be fitter that than the average child of their age in Liverpool. We now provide all children with cold drinking water on tap and a daily piece of fruit or vegetable - we are also in the process of enhancing milk provision for the over 7s. School dinners offer wide choice and variety, and advice is available to parents who want to know more about healthy packed lunches.

We are really looking forward to our new school, knowing that not only will the children have fantastic learning experiences inside school but also a beautiful building in which to undertake them.

For the third year running, children from both our sites took part in a week of special activities, designed to provide opportunities to learn new skills and develop new interests.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the week, talking part in arts, crafts, sports, language, dance and drama. The week was a huge success enjoyed by both staff and children.

Singing at Springwood Heath Primary School
The Junior children are making a CD this October! We are taking part in an Educational Music Project supported by Radio Merseyside, to produce a CD called 'Christmas Again'. To do this we have learned 2 specially written new Christmas songs called Ring out the Bells and Christmas Again. About 12 other primary schools have also been invited to take part in this exciting project. As well as this, the school choir have learned a new song also specially written for them called The Magic Christmas and they will record this for the CD. They will also have the opportunity to perform this on stage at the Neptune theatre in November.

What an exciting early Christmas for the children! The choir have a number of other engagements around Christmas too and that is on top of all the children learning songs for our Christmas production and singing at All Soul's Church as part of their Christmas family Carol service.

Information Technology
All children have opportunities to develop their awareness and knowledge of computer related activities - each class has its own PC and access to an Archimedes computer.

In addition, children have a weekly ICT lesson in the computer suite which contains ten networked PCs providing internet access. The network contains software which allows the children to use ICT in most areas of the curriculum.

Music
All the children have the opportunity to sing, to listen to music and to compose and play music. The School's Music Service provide instrumental lessons in violin, flute, clarinet, guitar and keyboard for children in year 1 onwards. We also have a school choir for our juniors pupils that meet once a week.
