The waiting is over! Our new school is open! What an exciting time to be part of our school community.

Last year we enjoyed a busy and successful year meeting all our targets and we were proud to be recognised by the 'Excellence in Cities' team for the wide range of extra curricular activities we offer to the children. This year we hope to build on our successes.

Our new building will enable us to offer a 'Space for Sports and Arts' for school and community use, generous ICT and Library facilities to support Lifelong Learning and an excellent learning environment for the children.

At Stockton Wood we are committed to lifelong learning. Our positive and inclusive ethos fosters the development of respectful and responsible individuals within a secure, caring and happy environment.

We are determined that all children should fulfil their potential and have opportunities to develop their sporting and creative talents. Hence by promoting creativity through the curriculum we can ensure the development of children's self esteem, motivation, achievement and skills for adult life.

We are proud to be members of the Speke Garston Education Action Zone. Working in partnership with the zone we have shared a common goal, which is to raise standards of achievement and attainment. Together we have enhanced the educational provision for the children of Stockton Wood and we look forward to continuing this successful relationship in the future.

Adventurous Learning
Following the success of the 'Adventurous Learning' Project last year we shall endeavour to continue to work with partners across the City to extend and enhance our curriculum. Children will experience Adventurous Learning through the Museums, Galleries, Libraries and Leisure Services within the City.

The children will also have opportunities to visit places of interest outside the City such as Chester, Colomendy and Manchester. Working with storytellers, writers, musicians and dancers children are able to express themselves through movement, dance and their own story writing. Working with 'Osun Arts' children learn about the cultural heritage and beauty of Africa.

The Space for Sports and Arts
The Space for Sports and Arts (SSA) is a facility within the school. This facility has been funded by Sport England and the Arts Council. Local community groups are encouraged to use the facility and we have been able to offer a range of activities to our pupils including, Easter and Summer schools(offering sports coaching and arts activities) and a weekly Sports and Arts Club for 6 - 9 year olds.

Activities include football, cross country running, athletics, basketball, hand ball, table tennis, tag rugby, net ball, quick cricket, Salsa Dance and Majorettes. Summer School was a great success with many children attending for three weeks. It was wonderful to see children benefiting from using the school facilities during the holiday period.

Our SSA Launch Day was a great success with many families joining us to take part in the official opening of the facility and to join in the various fun activities offered on the day. We look forward to inviting families to join us for other social events in the future.

Stockton Wood now has a brand new school building with excellent facilities for children, staff and our local community.

Our new building offers children a warm, bright, stimulating learning environment and the building has been designed to ensure that the learning styles of all children can be met.

Our new premises also enable us to offer 'extended school' activities to families and promote community use of our superb sports and arts facilities.

Facilities within the new building include:

  • Modern well appointed classrooms and resource areas
  • Shared learning and resource areas
  • Two ICT suites (school and community use
  • Libraries designed to support KS1 and KS2 curriculum
  • Sports and Arts Hall with changing and shower facilities (school and community use)
  • Outdoor Multi Use Games Area
  • Family and Adult Learning Centre
  • Quiet Place - Therapeutic support

Information Technology
Technology is changing all the time and we are delighted that with the support of Speke Garston Education Action Zone we have been able to enhance our ICT provision.

We now have interactive white boards in Year 5 and Year 6 and in our ICT suites. All computers throughout the school have been upgraded and having two ICT suites will enable us to enhance the current ICT curriculum provision for the infant children.

Quiet Place
Quiet Place is a special place within our school where children and families experiencing stress are provided with therapy and support. The Quiet Place aims to build children's confidence and provide them with strategies to help them cope when they are feeling under stress.

Families who would like their children to attend the Quiet Place should contact the school for further information.

Early Birds Club
Everyday children are invited to attend our Early Birds' Club. This provides the children with a healthy start to the day. Breakfast is provided which includes cereal, toast and juice and children have the opportunity to socialise and take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities.

The club starts at 8.25am and is organised by Sheila Smith, our Learning Mentor.
